Abstract
Many societies that existed in Europe during the Copper and Bronze Age (between 4500-2500 BCE) relied on metallurgy to conduct daily activities. This project aims to further understand past metallurgical contamination by recovering and analyzing inorganic elements found in soil and animal teeth from archeological sites in the Southern Carpathian Basin, particularly focused on the site of Rabe Anka Siget in Serbia. An essential portion of this project includes the creation of an online database of samples retrieved during excavations. The formation of the database enables the creation of sample profiles dedicated to identifying each sample in detail. For profiling of soil samples in particular, this includes an identification number, the location of sampling, Munsell color, consistency, organic factor, contamination factor, and surrounding archaeological context. The database also includes digitized maps and diagrams of each archeological excavation unit. After the online database is created, the project will then step into the next task of analyzing samples by using sonication for the animal teeth and leaching for the soil.
