Abstract
Literature exists that identifies prediabetes as the most important indicator for risk for the development of type 2 diabetes. Latino adults are disproportionately impacted by type 2 diabetes. There is a deficit of awareness of prediabetes diagnosis and conversations for those diagnosed with prediabetes about ways to reduce the risk of developing diabetes. One question is how to optimize opportunities for conversations about prediabetes so that Latino adults with prediabetes are able to choose if they would like to reduce their risk of developing diabetes by joining the National Diabetes Prevention Program. To fill this gap, we are developing a storyboard narrative that displays the educational journey of a Latina adult with prediabetes who is diagnosed with prediabetes by her health care provider and decides to join the National Diabetes Prevention Program. To evaluate the acceptability of the storyboard narrative, we are conducting a focus group through the Michigan Institute for Clinical and Health Research (MiCHR) with stakeholders including Latino adults, health care providers, and community health workers.
