Abstract
The objective of the project is the adoption of a disruptive innovation that not only depends on the performance of new technology, but also on the availability of complementary services in the ecosystem. It provides useful insights to practitioners operating in the connecting businesses in the industry to understand the emergence and the growth of the space industry. In order for a business to operate, it needs a set of interconnected groups of partners to collaborate in order to deliver a product. Data was collected by looking into every satellite that exists in the world and digging into the background of the companies that sent them into orbit. We collected company size, geographical location, year founded, information that could be found off various social medias and websites, and stock codes. Using data from the small satellite ecosystem, we plan to figure out for giant companies how and when much to invest in disruptors from our study. Our findings have implications theoretically to the literature to understand how disruptors build their own ecosystems and support their infrastructure. For example, disruptors such as electric vehicle manufacturers, if you enter the industry too early then you can lose investments and profits because there might not be too many charging stations even built in the first place. It also has an implication for large companies like gasoline companies, they need to build a barrier and figure out how to potentially use other items in the ecosystem.
