Abstract
There is a severe lack of youth and economically disadvantaged student representation in the field of STEM. MYHealth aims to work with young students to learn more about the problems that young people from high school to college face and build an interest in them for STEM topics. In this research program, we meticulously craft a handful of survey questions with young students about a topic on adolescent health we are interested in for our population of youth to answer. We then send those questions out to many youth who are a part of MyVoice. Once the data is collected, we have our MYHealth students analyze responses using a qualitative approach by “coding” the data into certain categories with the guidance from research assistance, as needed. Through this process, we hope to uncover certain issues present in young adults that are not so obvious so that they can be addressed by doctors and researchers alike. This research will allow better treatment techniques for young adults while also building an interest in youth to certain fields in STEM.
