Abstract

Status influences the culture, attitudes, and success in various circumstances. Due to the nature of status signaling the location of power possessed in an organization or group, status greatly influences the culture, attitudes, and practices within these groups. These differences in status present themselves in corporate settings and impact the company performance and organization. This project explores the impact of strategy on team performance in the context of the NBA. There is the traditional belief that a star player leads to increased team performance, but the study aims to determine the compounding factors. Methods initially included researching and browsing previous literature articles to narrow down the research topic. The project continued with researching and recording quantitative and qualitative information from articles and statistics found on various websites. After finding measurable variables, STATA is utilized to analyze the correlation between variables. Variables used to determine the team performance surround coach and player tenures and star player playing statistics. The star player statistics include minutes played and points per game which vary throughout a star player’s career. The dictation of status determines the methods and resources provided to teams thus determining a successful or unsuccessful team performance. Expected to find that proper resource allocation such as coaching and salary drive the impact of status on team performance.
