Abstract

Objective: Evaluating correlations between preterm birth and low birthweight and all climate change-related exposures. This scoping review adds three important pieces of information to the literature – 1) The data collected comes from literature that examines the risk factors between climate-change exposures and preterm birth/low birthweight; 2) The data brings forth results from all research by the country’s income classification; and 3) The data is presented by each trimester of pregnancy. Introduction: Climate change impacts people globally, leaving some populations more vulnerable and predisposed to the effects than others. This project focused on finding how much research has been done to date regarding the correlations between exposures to extreme climate events (such as heatwaves, natural disasters, temperature, precipitation, etc.) and adverse pregnancy outcomes of low birth weight and preterm birth. Methods: The databases PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, Global Health, and Scopus were searched and screened using Rayyan technologies to determine whether these articles aligned with our exposure measures of all climate-change-related exposures (i.e., Drought, Natural Disasters, Heat Waves, etc.) and our outcome measures (low birthweight and pre-term birth). The team then reviewed the literature to determine if these articles contained our desired data points. Results: To be determined. Conclusion: To be determined.
