Abstract
With a significant yet under recognized homeless population in Ann Arbor, the work of local organizations is essential in improving conditions for this community. Michigan Ability Partners (MAP), the nonprofit I collaborated with, focuses on providing permanent housing, rental assistance, and a wide range of social and financial support to individuals in need. As part of a grant requirement, MAP conducts an annual client survey through phone and in-person interviews to assess the effectiveness of its programs. These survey results were compiled into spreadsheets and visual reports, allowing for a clearer analysis of key areas of care, such as housing stability and racial equity, and identifying aspects that received less positive feedback. This data was also used to develop presentations for the organization’s administration, providing a foundation for discussions on enhancing client services and guiding future research efforts. Beyond financial assistance, my research emphasized the importance of expanding community engagement through events and targeted training programs. These initiatives focus on equipping formerly unhoused individuals with fundamental life skills such as: financial literacy, time management, and household maintenance that are often overlooked in standard training programs but remain crucial for long-term stability. By incorporating these recommendations, MAP can continue to grow its network of care, fostering a more comprehensive support system for its current and future clients while reinforcing its mission to promote lasting self-sufficiency.
