Abstract

Southwest Detroit faces significant challenges related to traffic violence and excessive truck traffic, impacting the safety and quality of life of its residents. These issues stem from outdated regulations, insufficient enforcement, and a lack of community engagement in policymaking. This research aims to identify and advocate for reformed regulations and policies that address these concerns through targeted grant research, grant writing, policy briefs, press releases, and direct engagement with government officials. By showcasing qualitative data gathered from Southwest Detroit residents through surveys, canvassing, and flyers at City of Detroit Town Hall meetings, this project highlights firsthand experiences of traffic-related hardships. The insights collected serve as a foundation for informed decision-making and policy recommendations to improve mobility, safety, and environmental conditions.
