Abstract
The current Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (ADRD) highlights the immense need for tools that assess risks while also addressing disparities in cognitive health among racially, ethically, and linguistically diverse elder populations in the U.S. These disparities are not fully accounted for in existing cognitive measures; and this study aims to address this gap. The study focuses on enhancing the inclusivity and accessibility of cognitive and social network measures by evaluating AI generated translations and integrating the findings into a multilingual research platform for future large scale surveys. This project will focus on the findings of multi-lingual in-depth interviews that will be conducted with older adults, including a large number of minoritized persons. We will evaluate the accessibility of our website, different web-based cognitive measures, and social network questions in 5 languages (English, Spanish, Chinese, Korean and Vietnamese), designing and refining the project website to ensure usability, accessibility, and linguistic inclusivity guided by input from my research mentor and graduate research assistants. The results of these interviews will address current gaps that are present in the knowledge we currently obtain in regard to ADRD. This study explores the balance between efficiency and linguistic accuracy, contributing recommendations for inclusive and scalable practices that promote diverse participation and equitable outcomes. The insights gained from this study will inform the development of culturally sensitive policies and practices in cognitive health research and care.
