Abstract

This qualitative study explores barriers and facilitators to Intensive Health Behavior and Lifestyle Treatment (IHBLT) participation among caregivers of children with obesity. IHBLT is a 26-hour, evidence-based intervention, but access remains limited due to transportation challenges, competing family responsibilities, and other social determinants of health. By conducting interviews with caregivers, this study aims to identify structural modifications that would make IHBLT more accessible and effective. We anticipate findings related to logistical challenges, generational eating habits, and the impact of obesity-related stigma. Additionally, we expect to identify key facilitators, such as caregivers desire to improve overall family health. Insights from this research will inform future adaptations of IHBLT, promoting a flexible, inclusive model that better supports families. Ultimately, this study seeks to reduce health disparities by expanding access to IHBLT and creating long-term healthy behaviors.
