As a part of the ongoing group effort to provide a proper analysis of The Smiling Madame Beudet, our group has done research regarding the mise en scène in the film. More specifically, we wanted to know: What can the mise en scene in The Smiling Madame Beudet tell us about France’s consumer class in the 1920s? We found sources regarding French social class, fashion, theatre, home-life, social-life, and even dolls of the time period, all in an effort to discuss their representation within the film.
