Abstract

The city of Hamtramck is referred to as “the world within two square miles” with residents being from Yemeni, Bangladeshi, Polish, and African American backgrounds. In the Community and Economic Development (CED) department, the focus of work is to improve the quality of life in Hamtramck, including making resources and opportunities accessible. My work aimed to update and standardize the CED applications. Each application was adapted to be fillable online to become more accessible. In addition to this project, I created a plan for the city’s annual Summer Youth Program. Through researching the communitys’ needs voiced in their Master Plan, three major themes have been selected to focus on in preparation for projects over the summer. Upon review of the City’s Master Plan, projects planned for the this upcoming summer pertain to 1) 1.1.2 Improve the South Campau Gateway; 2) 3.4 Accommodate Bikes on Roadways through collaboration with the Joe Louis Greenway Project; and 3) 6.3 Improve the Quality of Hamtramck’s Parks and Play Spaces. In the CED department, each project builds on the previous to work towards efficiently serving the residents of Hamtramck.
