Abstract
Using computational simulations, my mentor’s laboratory previously reported that the graded-to-binary conversion from sensory stimuli to the yes-to-no escape decision of the Drosophila larva enhances the accuracy of the behavioral decisions. However, computer simulations are limited in testing the performance of this neural algorithm in real-life scenarios. A physical robot can test the neural algorithm and offer insights into the physical constraints for implementing the algorithm. We are simulating how a Drosophila larva reacts to heat with a simple robot car as proof of concept. I have set up a Raspberry Pi, a motor driver, a servo, and a temperature sensor that will be used to help react to the temperature given. I am currently implementing the biology-inspired algorithm using Python to test the performance of the robot car.
