Abstract

Whole Health can be explained as the aspects of life which contribute to a person’s overall well-being outside of a doctor’s office. Whole Health also integrates conventional medicine with other holistic practices and was designed to help the care of veterans. In this research project, the researchers developed a survey focused on Whole Health practices. The survey was designed with regards to gaps in past research with each researcher studying a particular area. The final survey was then created by combining all areas from the various researchers, testing the survey, editing the survey and then distributing it through Qualtrics. The area of Whole Health that I was specifically interested in for this project was the use of technology to increase accessibility to physical activity. The final survey asked respondents what barriers they noted that would prevent them from using an AI program for physical fitness purposes. Another question in the final survey asked respondents which aspect of an AI program they would find most helpful in facilitating physical activity. Options included creating a workout plan, creating a nutrition plan, allowing for reminders, and finding group exercises. The results of this survey are pending but will include qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis, focusing on understanding the data with relation to demographic information. A hypothesis is that some groups, such as those from low socioeconomic backgrounds or rural areas, may find a resource such as gyms and personal trainers hard to access. Using the results, I will establish an implementation project that will focus on consulting with the University of Michigan Coding Club. That club is creating a free AI program that can be used to help people access physical activity. My contribution will make it easier and more helpful for people to use this program.
