Abstract
This project aims to integrate and enhance the Vaccine Ontology (VO) within the broader framework of the VIOLIN (Vaccine Investigation and Online Information Network) database to support advanced vaccine research and informatics. VO is a community-driven biomedical ontology that provides a standardized representation of vaccine-related concepts, including vaccine components, administration, and host responses. While VO has successfully supported data integration and semantic reasoning, its transformation into the VIOLIN infrastructure will enable broader interoperability with curated vaccine datasets and machine-learning tools. By merging VO into VIOLIN, ontology-linked knowledgebase, this project will facilitate more robust query capabilities, deeper semantic integration, and novel analytics. My transformation leveraged ontology-based tools such as Ontobee for systematical extraction and visualization of VO content. In this UROP project, I developed a set of many Excel based programs to support the automatic extraction, analysis, and conversion of licensed human vaccines from the VO to the VIOLIN knowledgebase, which are further queryable and visualizable in the VIOLIN website, significantly enhancing the power of VIOLIN in vaccine storate and analysis.
