Abstract
My project examines how information about biological cell lines can be better organized and standardized within CellCards, an ontology-backed knowledge base used by researchers who depend on accurate cell metadata. Although resources like ATCC and Cellosaurus provide extensive information, the details they offer are often scattered or inconsistent, which makes it difficult for scientists to compare or reuse cell line data reliably. This project focuses on resolving these inconsistencies by bringing structured ATCC data into alignment with the existing Cell Line Ontology (CLO). To study this problem, I used Python-based data extraction and cleaning methods to gather key metadata from ATCC product pages and prepare it for comparison with CLO entries. This allowed me to identify where the two sources overlap and where important ATCC cell lines are missing from CLO. Although the ontology integration is still in progress, the patterns emerging from the matched data support the idea that many widely used cell lines are not yet represented in CLO. Recognizing these gaps is an important step toward improving the coverage and accuracy of CellCards. As the project continues, expanding and refining these mappings will help make cell line information more reliable and accessible for future research.
