Abstract

Cognitive manufacturing is an expanding area of manufacturing, expanding beyond manufacturing systems integrated with artificial intelligence and sensors, but developing a system capable of evolving in real time based on real time data and semantic perception. By analyzing previous research in the field, an understanding of gaps and achievements in extending cognitive manufacturing can be realized. Through an expansive analysis, we aim to answer the following question: To what extent has cognitive manufacturing been research, and what could the future of research look like? This study was conducted using bibliometric analysis to develop a corpus of papers, which were later sorted into themes. This aided in the understanding of what aspects of cognitive manufacturing are most explored. The expected findings from our analysis will then highlight the demand for future research, notably in application aspects of integrating cognitive manufacturing within factories, and policy implications. Ultimately, the result of this project will serve to guide researchers in this field, where the final paper intends to be used as a resource to identify demands for further research and understand the existing environment of research as of publication.
