Abstract
The STaR Lab’s bipolar reattempt project seeks to evaluate a broad range of demographic and clinical characteristics alongside treatment adherence among individuals with bipolar disorder who have made repeated suicide attempts within a one year period. Within this project, I aim to examine the role of comorbid mental health diagnoses, specifically personality disorders and psychotic disorders, in relation to characteristics of suicide attempts such as precipitating events and attempt methods. Medical charts from 4,509 patients were screened for eligibility, and a final sample of 136 was used for analysis. Characteristics of eligible participants, including comorbid diagnoses and suicide method type, were collected from medical charts, coded, and analyzed utilizing SPSS. Data analysis is currently ongoing, and we anticipate relationships to be found between participant characteristics, diagnosis comorbidity, and attempt method. Findings have the potential to increase understanding of suicide reattempts and inform therapeutic efforts to reduce risk for patients.
