Abstract
Eye–Voice Span, or EVS, describes the distance between where a reader looks and when the reader speaks during oral reading. Most EVS research has focused on monolingual readers. Few studies have examined EVS in bilingual readers or in second language reading. Research on language processing shows that lower second language proficiency increases mental load during reading and speaking. This gap raises an important question. It is still unclear how EVS works when bilingual readers read in their second language.
