Abstract
In many marine applications with ships or buildings out on sea, they often face many obstacles. Some of these challenges consist of barnacles and corrosion which can affect a ship or building’s performance out on sea.The research we are doing is starting with a pre-existing marine formulation and adding different enhancers to increase the performance of both hydrophobic and icephobic properties. The tests we conducted were acquired via contact angle, ice test, and abrasion tests. We conducted many of these tests in order to reveal how the new formulations would compare with the baseline. Depending on if the formulation is cost – effective would also impact our decision to go through with one formulation compared to the other. The goal is to create a new quality formulation that exceeds in both properties and to become a coating everyone could use. The results we found when comparing the baseline to the new formulation was an increased performance in both the hydrophobic and icephobic properties. The modifications we did would decrease the risks that come with being in the open sea. The coating would last no matter what type of climate it is in, it is made to last against the toughest conditions.
