Abstract

This study explores bi-lateral televisual flows between India and China, focusing on the mutual influence of media products within the broader context of Asian cultural exchange. Through qualitative textual analysis of an Indian TV series on Chinese platform Duban, the research investigates the factors driving cross-cultural popularity. Utilizing Python crawler technology, thousands of comments were collected, categorized, and visualized, shedding light on the conditions for cultural circulation in the global south. The research emphasizes the philosophical and cultural parallels between China and India, particularly in their histories of mythology. Commonalities in ideology, gender connotation, aesthetics, philosophies, and values facilitate the dissemination of myth-based cultural products. Audiences benefit from a broader media landscape, enriching cultural experiences. Researchers gain insights into the shared Asian cultural ecology, while societies enjoy a more inclusive and connected cultural climate. Recognizing the subjectivity in humanities research, the study underscores the value of diverse perspectives in shaping our understanding of global cultural dynamics.
