Abstract
Integrative medicine is a healthcare approach which takes into account a person’s mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual health, emphasizing prevention and patient-centered care. Through review of the scientific literature, our research team found that there is limited data on how individuals use, understand, and perceive integrative medicine. This project aimed to study how people utilize integrative medicine and their attitudes towards it. To do this, our research team designed and distributed a 43 question electronic survey that gathered information on participants’ demographic characteristics, healthcare practices, and views on integrative medicine. The survey was tested with a small group and revised as a final survey in the Qualtrics platform. Then, the survey link was distributed and responses were compiled and analyzed using statistical methods within RStudio. Results showed no statistically significant associations between participants’ demographic factors and frequency of doctor visits, financial status, or their views on public health policies. These findings suggest that attitudes toward integrative medicine and related healthcare policies may be shaped by other influences not captured in this study. Additionally, an implementation project was created to raise awareness for blood cancer.
