Abstract
Spectroscopy is a study that involves absorption and emission of light as it relates to the wavelength. This research is being performed to understand how a change in the molecular level affects the catalytic activity of that molecule.The nanosecond transient is a pump probe technique that uses a nanosecond laser to excite a sample.Through the use of nanosecond transients, a person is able to see varying levels of absorbance and broaden the excitation spectrum. For example, in the lab that I am in, cobalt oxide is being used and different dilutions are tested to change how much change is identified through the excitation and spectrum. This is also used to identify if this change in the molecular structure causes any damage to the molecule. Ultimately what we standardize our sample to look like is the excitation state of Tris(bipyridine)ruthenium(II) chloride otherwise known as rubpy3. This is the standard for how the excitation spectrum should look like.
