Abstract

Vision is essential to our daily life and disease that affect this sense are extremely debilitating. Repairing the visual system requires understanding its layout and gaining access to specific connections across the brain. This project aims to determine the distribution of calcium-binding proteins (CaBPs), parvalbumin (Pv), calbindin (Cb), and calretinin (Cr), as selective neuronal markers in the dorsal lateral geniculate nucleus (dLGN), a first relay in the transfer of visual information in the brain. It further explores if molecular markers are conserved across species providing a stepping stone towards the regeneration of the human visual system.
