Abstract
Interferon I and Interferon III are both inflammatory pathways activated by cells in response to stimulus. Because of their anti-viral function in a healthy cell, they have substantial potential for damage when primed with autoantibodies, as they have evolved to defend against DNA and RNA based pathogens. While the inflammatory pathways activated by IFN1s have been explored in cutaneous inflammation, the pathways activated by IFN3s have not been to the same extent. By exploring which genes are up-regulated by IFN1, IFN3, or both, it will be possible to have a greater understanding of the cellular response to these different interferons, and through that the pathophysiology of inflammatory responses in the skin in regards to type 3 interferons.
