Abstract
This study explores how mother’s past trauma impacts her young child’s development, particularly within families of color. Research shows that mothers of color often face high stress levels, which can affect a child’s “stress system” (the HPA axis). Using daily diaries, our team will track how PTSD symptoms and experiences of racism influence parenting in real-time. While we are currently in the preliminary phase developing our website and piloting these diary tools, our ultimate goal is to create better, culturally specific support. By understanding these social and emotional challenges, we hope to stop the cycle of trauma and improve health outcomes for the next generation.
