Abstract
The profound advantages sports are not something easily accessed for all children. Providing adaptive alternatives ensures any and all can play to their hearts’ content, unlocking a multitude of benefits. This way, we can inspire essential psychological and mental health support, and bring a newfound, inclusive joy to these pleasures. Currently, research does not fully explore how accommodated sports improve these environments, but we believe accommodated sports to provide many benefits; however, the advantages are under researched. We will review the existing research and expand the current scope on how this implementation positively affects mental health by using our own surveys to conduct an analysis. As of now, there are critical gaps within research, particularly concerning neurodivergent communities in sports, that we will address. Among neurodivergent athletes, there is a profound lack of proper representation and consideration in general studies and sports research. Filling this notable gap is essential to creating truly equitable and beneficial athletic opportunities for everyone.
