Abstract
The goal of this study is to examine the impact that mentor and parental relationships have on the way youth view their post-secondary futures. This is a topic I am interested in exploring because of the influence relationships with trusted adults can have on children’s thought processes, specifically regarding their futures, and because of how beneficial or detrimental these relationships can be for children if not nurtured properly. While there is research on this topic, there is still more to learn regarding youth of color. I will be exploring past literature about this topic to validate and solidify my findings on this topic. To learn more about this topic I will also be utilizing archival data to find evidence to support my research question. I expect to find that mentor and parental relationships positively impact youths’ future orientations. This study is important because youth are advancing with every generation and if we as a whole can figure out how to nurture them to defy environmental challenges, we can help them become great.
