Kiely Silva Illumination Project
Attached below is the file to a fictional journal. Written in the perspective a homeless young man, this journal touches on the unique experiences and struggles many homeless people face. Inspired by some true stories of homeless people in America, there are topics on dating, love, self-reflection, and survival.
Backstory
Adrian went through high school out of the closet, but not in his home. He grew up in a very religious home, he believes in God, but hates him for making him like boys. He knows his parents are homophobic, they wouldn’t support Adrian if he were to come out. He received a scholarship from his High School to go to San Jose State University. During his time at college he started to develop a love for writing. He graduates from State at 22 and starts working with elementary students. His second year working there, his dad gets sick. After spending a lot of time with his parents, because he is worried their health is declining, Adrian wants to tell them he’s gay. He wants to tell them because he wants them to know who their son is, who he loves. He tells them he is gay, they kick him out. Adrian goes to his friends house but cannot stay long with them because they start grad school soon. Adrian decides he wants to go to San Francisco because he knows how known the city is for being LGBTQ friendly. He had found a good organization that can help him find support, maybe find himself on this journey. His friend gives him a journal, they say it will be important to record this part of his life, to manage his emotions but to also remember this time of his life. This is Adrian’s journal.
