Advance visual literacy in biochemistry/biophysics through integration of interactive technologies

Markos Koutmos, Chemistry | 2019-2020

Our goal is to enhance visualization communication and literacy in biochemistry and biophysics undergraduate classes. I propose an intertwined series of initiatives that include involving undergraduate students in creating material to educate the public about macromolecular structure and dynamics. I want to expose students to cutting edge technologies for disseminating structural information though visual and interactive aids, and involve them in creating such material. This will enhance student learning about macromolecular structure and communication. Specifically, students will make 3D printed materials, as well as create animations illustrating the atomic-level details of biochemical processes.
