Su’ad Abdul Khabeer, American Culture | 2020-2021
I am seeking a grant to support the implementation of technology into my Winter 2022 first-year seminar course (cross-listed in AMCULT, AMAS, DAAS and WGS) Black Women in the Archive. This course draws on literature from Black feminist studies, Black studies, American studies, religious studies, anthropology, and history to understand the roots and reproduction the absence of Black women’s stories in official archives. Using this technology students will have the opportunity to make a scholarly intervention by taking a hands-on role in rectifying that absence through working with the historical materials of one 20th century Black Muslim woman activist through my research project, Umi’s Archive.
