The XR-DEI Project: A 3 Year Pilot for Developing Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Courses in the Humanities Classroom using Extended and Virtual Reality

Sara Blair, English Language and Literature | 2022-2023

We propose to: 1. create 3 new small seminar, experimental undergraduate LSA courses that use extended and virtual reality (XR/VR) to represent, analyze, and critique current and historical experiences of racial, gender, and social inequality; 2. create new XR/VR technical support, course development, and XR/VR reserve resources to support immersive media teaching; 3. provide training in XR/VR pedagogy for graduate student instructors; 4. produce a best-practice assessment document and white paper measuring pedagogical outcomes and impact on student experience authored by a postdoctoral fellow embedded in the project; 5. collaborate with LSA-TS staff to prototype and identify the best configuration for a permanent, state of the art XR lab space that serves immersive media teaching on central campus.
