Abstract
This study examines whether institutional financial capacity is associated with the racial and ethnic diversity of admissions office staff across U.S. four-year higher education institutions. In higher education, representation within admissions offices matters because admissions officers shape how institutions present themselves to prospective students through recruitment, evaluation, and the ways they communicate a sense of belonging. At the same time, institutions differ in the resources, especially financial resources, available to support staffing structures and diversity-oriented hiring. This project inquires whether institutions with greater financial capacity, measured in endowment per undergraduate student, are more likely to employ admissions staff with higher proportions of officers who identify as people of color.
