Abstract
The growing use of artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare brings forth new opportunities for improving psychiatric support and patient outcomes. This project introduces inMyVoice, a voice-based digital platform that records daily verbal diaries and uses AI to generate summaries and relevant information for clinical use. The project initially focused on individuals with depression and anxiety and later expanded to include those with problematic alcohol use, aiming to identify patterns and trends over time. To contextualize this work, a scoping review was conducted using web searches, peer-reviewed literature, and app store screening. Twelve AI-related mental health applications were initially identified, and four were selected for in-depth analysis. MindfulDiary and AudioDiary are the two that serve as direct comparators while Youper and Talkspace serve as contrasting models. Based on this review, it was found that while many applications incorporate some form of AI or journaling features, less applications integrate voice-based symptom narration, longitudinal summarization, and clinician-facing outputs within a single platform. These results highlight a gap in digital mental health as well as provide support for the potential of AI powered tools to enhance personalized psychiatric care.
