Abstract

In investigating sentence processing, common methods include using the Self-Paced Reading (SPR) or Rapid-Serial Visual Processing (RSVP) alongside electroencephalogram (EEG) recording of the participants while they work through the stimuli. The Maze task is an additional reading method that is used, where participants advance through sentences one word at a time, choosing between the correct answer and a distractor. This combines benefits from the previous two methods such as time locking responses to stimuli, while minimizing drawbacks, like possible EEG neural response overlap from the presentation or progress rate advancing too quickly for complete linguistic integration. Despite these advantages, Maze has yet to be used alongside EEG. Our research works to start investigations in the method of Maze plus EEG, determining how this combination may advance understanding in sentence processing, as well as the inner workings of the Maze task itself.
