Abstract

This study delves into the optimal treatment approaches for patients with bicuspid aortic valve (BAV) disease compared to those with tricuspid aortic valves (TAV). Examining data from the University of Michigan Frankel Cardiovascular Center between 1996 and 2021, we focused on the long-term distal aortic growth of BAV and TAV patients who have a history of acute type A aortic dissection (ATAAD). Patient demographics, intraoperative procedures, and perioperative outcomes were recorded. Computed tomography data, the Society of Thoracic Surgeons database, and medical record review were utilized. Long-term outcomes and aortic growth were evaluated with cumulative incidence of reoperation curves and growth curves. We aim to determine if there is a significant difference in distal aortic growth after prior ATAAD in BAV vs. TAV patients, offering valuable insights into effective surgical treatments for aortic valve disease.
