Summer 2024 WAGSFP Blog Post prompts
Blog #1: A Letter to your Future Self
In this blog entry you will write a letter to your future self. Consider responding to the following questions: Tell your reader a little bit about yourself. What are your expectations for your summer research project? What do you hope to gain during this time? Do you expect to encounter any challenges, if so what are they? What skills or experiences are you bringing into the summer that will strengthen and benefit your research project? In blog #4, at the end of your summer experience, you will be asked to reflect on this initial entry. Please write between 250-400 words for this entry. If you are comfortable, this could be a great blog to share a photo that will help your audience get to know you a bit better [the photo does not have to be of you, it could be a pet, favorite food etc].
Blog #2: Your Research Project
In this blog entry, describe the research project you are working on in more detail. Discuss the potential impact of this research on individuals, as well as groups of people. What is your role in the research? How do you think research ethics could play a role in your project? Please write between 250-400 words for this entry. Keep in mind the important note above, talk with your research mentor regarding what you are allowed to publish about specifics of the research.
Blog #3: Update on your Research Experience
Use this blog to reflect on your research experience thus far, consider the following questions. What are you learning? How have you been challenged? How does social identity shape your understanding of your research [check out this document when considering social identity]? Informal musings on life as a researcher [These should be low-key, fun, show your personality, and not stuffy like a journal article]. Please write between 250-400 words for this entry.
Blog #4: Reflections + Moving Forward
Read back through your first blog post, the letter you wrote to your future self. In blog #4 you may choose to discuss what you have learned, reflect back on the challenges you encountered this summer (how did they met the expectations you expressed in blog #1), tell your reader about what empowered you this summer, and/or how you will use this WAGSFP experience as you continue working toward your future goals. Finally, share any advice you have for future WAGSFP fellows. Please write between 250-400 words for this entry.
