But after taking the course, I can confidently say that I would recommend the course even if there was no money involved. Before this course, I had absolutely no idea or concept of sexual citizenship, and the idea that everyone has their own sexual rights was very new to me. … I truly believe so many students who are experiencing new social spaces for the first time would benefit.”
Ryan: “Even though the Sexual Citizens course is not listed as a sexual education class, it was the most productive and safe experience I’ve ever had discussing sex, boundaries, relationships, gender-based and intimate-partner violence, and so much more. Also, the light coursework let us focus on having deep conversations within the discussion sections, which helped me learn the most.”
Lys: “As a freshman majoring in Art and Design, I enrolled in the Sexual Citizenship Course and Research Project to learn more about healthy relationships and sexual agency. The course fulfilled social science credits and was the most engaging class I have taken. I appreciated the supportive environment for class discussions and wished it had lasted an entire semester!“
Alex: “Before this class, there were a lot of experiences or patterns I didn’t really have words for. Now I do. I understand what it means to be a sexual citizen and how each of us has our own “sexual projects” shaped by culture, pressure, and personal values. Just having that language has changed the way I listen and respond in conversations. I find myself noticing things and being able to name dynamics that I wouldn’t have recognized even a month and a half ago.“
Cameron: “This class truly made me realize the complexity of consent, gender roles, and power when it comes to sexual citizenship, and how all of these things come into play. The classroom environment really created a collaborative space for us students to better understand and become comfortable talking about sexual topics. I think the class really made me realize how complex sex and sexuality are, and how important it is for young adults to be properly educated on the topic.”
