“Working for the Weekend” by Loverboy really speaks to my experience in WAGSFP this summer. Working full time (40 hrs a week) in addition to working 10 hrs a week on another project was really challenging. However, I discovered how much I like having a set work schedule and workday that ends when I come home (and the extra money didn’t hurt either). For the academic year, when I come home from my job, I come home to homework. The workday never really ends, because there is always homework and studying to be done. That all changed this summer when I started working full time without classes to worry about. I really liked working hard for a set amount of hours, then going home and being able to truly relax.
That mindset extended to the weekend. Even though I was working 10 hrs a day during the week, on the weekends I was free to truly explore Ann Arbor. I’ve been able to see more of the city than I ever did during the year when I was in classes. I loved the farmers market, the summer festival, and Art Fair. Ann Arbor is a totally different place in the summer, way more subdued and relaxed, and I’m so glad I got to be here to enjoy it. My time in this program flew by, and I want to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart and the bottom of bank account for allowing me to be a part of it!
