In my first blog entry, I acknowledged that I might have to change my argument around to better encapsulate the new information I encountered in my research. Now, I can say with certainty that was true! In fact, I ended up changing my whole project during the program and had to get on the right track quickly in order to get everything done in time. I worked with my mentor to figure out a new direction (and a new project!) which has helped me learn more about Elizabeth than I had previously known. I am glad that I got the opportunity to change directions, I feel like I have learned more than I thought I was going to by going down this path. It was really hard at the beginning when I realized that my previous thesis was not going to hold up with this new form of inquiry, but I had to learn how to pivot and appreciate what I got from the experience. I think that my biggest piece of advice for future WAGSFP fellows is to be comfortable with your research taking you places you haven’t been and didn’t think you’d go! There is so much to learn and appreciate in the journey.
