An Unexpected Foray into Reality Television

Like I mentioned in a previous blogpost, I’ve recently become fascinated by a reality television series called The Real Housewives of New York. Personally, I find this surprising as I think my television tastes are usually far more dark, serious, and gloomy. I stumbled across a few references to the series in my YouTube recommendations and decided to give it a whirl. Why, not? What did I have to lose? Apparently, it was a lot of time and obsession! I started with Season 1, which was released roughly around 2008, and I loved nitpicking at what used to be cultural norms. From the fashion choices to the extravagant purchases, I loved entering this foreign, drama-filled world that seems so foreign to mine. As an argumentative person, I love the pettiness with which these women undertake their relationships. The escapism of the franchise is brilliant, but it seems revolutionary for women simultaneously. Women can be unabashed villains and brilliantly flawed, even up and coming entrepreneurs. I don’t know if this obsession will last, but it’s definitely entertaining while it does!
