Hello everyone! I hope everyone has been healthy and happy since the last time I wrote. I’m back again to give another little update on my summer research. Everyone in my lab is super kind and I’m very happy that all of our energy matches one another. During last week’s lab we had a deep dialogue on how change comes in many different forms and may look entirely different from person to person. We discussed power dynamics and how sexual assault cases are often looked down upon and completely ignored when someone who holds a lot of power is the one being accused. I love having these kinds of conversations with my team 1) because they are important (!) and 2) because dialogue helps us connect our thoughts. A couple of weeks ago I started reading the book She Said (definitely recommend!) which is written by the two New York Times investigative reporters who exposed Harvey Weinstein’s history of abuse and sexual misconduct against women. The book has a lot of parallels with what my research focuses on, so it has been really helpful being able to make connections between the two.
During my past couple of weeks in the lab, I have been spending most of my time cleaning the dataset. Our research is essentially a large literary review of scholarly articles that are related to campus sexual assault and Title IX. Last week was our final week of data cleaning, so this upcoming week we will be focusing on analyzing the data and will be in our beginning stages of writing. YAY! I don’t have much experience with research writing, so this is definitely one of the parts I am most excited about. I look forward to writing again soon!
