Through my research I have been able to continue work that I have done as well as learn new things. I have been learning more details and becoming very comfortable with processes and protocols where I am more confident in being able to do the work than I was when I first started. It has been nice to also have Lauren here in the lab too because we are both knowledgeable in different areas so we are able to help each other and learn from each other as well. We do conduct animal work and I have always had a relatively good sense of confidence when doing animal work but have since been able to learn more complex surgeries and procedures. I have found that this summer my confidence has really grown in respect to cell work in the lab. This is something that takes a lot of detail and you really have to zone in and pay attention to make sure nothing is getting messed up. We have had some really loooong days where we have had big experiments and those have been challenging but we have also found ways to make the environment and the tiring day fun! A lot of our work is with pregnancy and miscarriages so as a woman I think that allows me to be even more interested and passionate about the work because I am able to see its effect in my life. I think that being able to relate to your research in some personal way can help allow you to really dive deeper into it and care more about it.
