My research project consists of creating a literature review on the topic of measuring engagement in adolescent mHealth interventions. Since there is no gold standard of the best practices to measure engagement I will learn about different methods used thus far and investigate their strengths and weaknesses. This will give me a strong foundation for continued research with my mentor to examine levels of engagement for the mHealth app they have created to reduce risk behaviors.
This research has the potential to impact many people, whether individuals aiming to find the best practices to keep adolescents engaged in their behavioral intervention or people participating in these interventions. This research may also impact groups of people and further research because if we can figure out the best ways to measure engagement we can also target the ways to promote engagement and overall lead to effective health promotion.
My role in this research project is to create a literature review to find the best method of engagement measurements to apply to projects from the PRHE lab. I will be continuing to work with my mentor through the SOAR program so I am excited to see my role continue.
As I move forward with this project and work with data collected from health clinics then research ethics will play a large role in what I am doing. The data collected followed many considerations and was up to standards regarding research ethics. For example, participation was voluntary, they recruited with informed consent, and there is a large focus on anonymity and confidentiality that has been carried out as the project progressed. My role with research ethics will be focused on results communication.
