Hello! My research project is “Assessing Educational Quality: A Comprehensive Literature Review on Key Determinants, Measurement Metrics, and Emerging Trends in K-12 Education.” Throughout the first few weeks, we have been working to understand the different components used to measure the quality of education and how they impact health. We have been reviewing the literature already published on this topic through databases like PubMed, SCOPUS, ERIC, and Google Scholar.
An impact of our research could be increased awareness of what goes into our education system. The articles we are reviewing and will be writing a manuscript about discuss many different factors that effect the health of students and their academic achievement. Many of these factors I had not considered as part of educational quality like nutrition programs, community engagement, or school air quality. Our research may call for specific programs or educational policies to be enacted in order to better K-12 education quality.
My role in this project is an undergraduate research assistant. I work with another undergrad research assistant to complete literature reviews. At the end of this project we will be writing a systematic review of the literature out there on U.S. educational quality K-12.
I think research ethics plays a huge role in this project much like any other research. Education inequity is a huge issue every where and if were to publish inaccurate research due to bias or any oversight, we could be jeopardizing a larger system that effects many individuals. It is our responsibility as researchers to report truthfully.
