My research centers on the reign of Queen Elizabeth I and, specifically, her ability to remain unmarried and childless as the queen regnant of England in the 16th century. I originally came to this program with a formed argument, but since then, have revised my work and decided to move in a different direction. Moving forward, I want to investigate differing interpretations of her decision to stay unmarried and how she was able to remain a successful, and long-lasting monarch. So far, my research has entailed extensive background research into Queen Elizabeth, along with her family and courtiers to help me get a clearer view of her situation. Next, I want to explore her historiography to understand the different interpretations historians have of her and her situation. I think that this research could prove to help us understand how varying viewpoints of her were formed, and in a broader sense, add to the field of monarchical historiography. I am taking on the chief role in my research. I came to this program having done previous research on Elizabeth and now, after pivoting, I will continue to take on the chief role as a researcher to look into her historiography.
