Hi! It’s me! Brianna!
I’m a Junior studying Public Policy with a minor in Gender & Health at Michigan. As I’m sure you could’ve guessed from my major and minor, I am interested in understanding how the law and public policy impact women’s health. I am on the executive board of Students for Choice at UMich, which is a student organization that supports women’s health and reproductive rights. The research I’m doing this summer through WAGSFP is about the fascinating history of breastfeeding in Brazil, which begins with the social history of wet nursing during slavery and continues with the national breastmilk donation system that exists in Brazil today. I hope to one day have a career in advocating for women’s health and civil rights internationally!
For fun, I love to read, run (mostly a mix of jogging and walking tbh), listen to a lot of music, and every now and then I enjoy taking the time to cook a full meal. When I don’t have time to cook, my favorite restaurants in Ann Arbor are Madras Masala and Frita Batidos. I enjoy reading memoirs, fashion magazines, and collections of essays or short stories. My favorite book of all time is Paradise by Toni Morrison, although I would recommend truly any book by Toni Morrison. And as for movies– I love sci-fi, especially the X-Men. I also love period pieces, like Forrest Gump (one could argue that’s a period piece, right? :P), and documentaries.
