Hey guys!
My name is Madeline Sabine Parks, I am 18 and a half years old (as of yesterday), and I just finished my first year at the University of Michigan. I am double majoring in Biochemistry and Gender & Health, with a minor in French, and I play rugby on the UM club team. I want to go to med school (hopefully at U of M!) and then go into women’s health. I’m super interested in pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period, especially the medicalization and technologization of childbirth in the U.S. and around the world, and the alternatives to intervention-heavy childbirth (like home birth, midwives, doulas, etc.).
I love cats. I have two at home, Ophelia (we call her Ofie) and Marbles. Here are some photos that didn’t do exactly what I thought they would but I’m going to give up for now on getting them to do what I want them to do.
I also have an 11 year old brother, Campbell. He’s going into sixth grade in the fall, and he does parkour and magic.
I am also a big fan of babies and kids, so I spend some of my little remaining free time babysitting and tutoring. Since posting pictures of other people’s children is weird, here’s a picture of me as a toddler, titled “leaf wizard.”

I love all your pictures of your cats <3 (and it's okay, formatting my blog literally took too long to do, so I understand the struggle).
I can't wait to hear more about your research in the future; I know Joanne Bailey (instructor for WOMENSTD 220: Perspectives in Women's Health) is the director of the Nurse Midwifery Service here at the university, so she might be a good person to talk esp. with alternatives to intervention-heavy childbirth. Not sure if she's around, but in case you haven't interacted with her yet (idk), maybe you could try to hit her up. Took her class a while back when I was a freshman, but she's a super cool lady.
OMG we should talk, I am also really interested in learning about pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period because I attended a conference about parteras (midwifes) and learned so much and now just want to know more!
