Hey y’all!
My name is Jamie Lee. I’m from Detroit and came to Ann Arbor in 2008 as a U of M freshman. After many life’s twists and turns, I’m returning this fall after a 5-year break as a rising senior. I’m also [intermittently] pursuing an Associate’s in Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management. I’m first and foremost a mom, est. 2009.
Here’s me and my kiddo.

My research this summer is with Dr. Megan Pesch who’s studying maternal attitudes and behaviors surrounding feeding their toddlers and the impact it has on obesity rates. I’ll also be working on a project that involves studying how mothers interact with picky eaters.
My hobbies are pretty much food and food-related activities. Looking at food, making food, discovering new food, studying food, talking about food, etc. Some of my favorite Ann Arbor restaurants are Blue Tractor, Black Pearl (that is if someone else’s paying), Jolly Pumpkin, Arbor Brewing Company, Chela’s Evergreen, Northside Grille, Ashley’s, Tmaz, The Lunch Room, Jerusalem Garden, Los Amigos – I will stop there…for now.
I loooove music and I’m always trying to go to concerts and discover new artists (if you have suggestions PLEASE comment)! My typical playlist might be like:
- Tank & the Bangas – Smoke.Netflix.Chill
- MGMT – Electric Feel
- Rich The Kid – New Freezer
- Soundgarden – Fell on Black Days
- Khalid – Reasons
- J. Cole – Motiv8
- Bobby Caldwell – New Flame
- Alicia Myers – I Want to Thank You
- Lakey Inspired – The Process
- Cardi B – Bartier Cardi
My sister just sent me this video that I’m super fascinated with.

I enjoy lots of different things and I’m usually down for most activities. I don’t have a lot of favorites. I’m too indecisive/fickle to have a favorite of anything. But if we talk, I can tell you some worthy contenders! I’m totally an open book and love to talk. I also love coffee and will have a coffee date at almost any time. I fell in love with Ann Arbor at the age of 12 and the flame has never dimmed. I hope you all get to truly enjoy your summer here! <3

AWWW! That is such a cute picture of your son and you <3
Thank you! ^_^
Wow, it sounds like you have a lot of great hobbies! I’m impressed that you find the time to do so many things you enjoy; I barely manage to hang out with my friends during the school year, much less spend so much time on extracurricular activities (for lack of a better term).
Your research sounds really interesting, especially having interacted with so many different children, with their parents and without their parents present, especially in the context of food. I’m curious, then, how your experiences with feeding young kids, your own and others’, factor into how you go about your research and if they have had any impact on how you think about the work your doing? I’m definitely going to look into what you’re studying some more (probably starting with your blog post on it 😛 )
Well, I have the interests and hobbies, but the time is often sparse! As I’ve gotten older I’ve become only slightly better at balancing work & play lol
I’m so glad you found my research interesting! My experiences with children and feeding are almost always in the back of my mind. My mentor and I have similar thought processes about the different legs this research could be taking and so far we’ve had a couple of hamster wheel conversations.
I think the biggest impact though comes where I reflect on my own habits and ways when I’m feeding my son now and how I fed him in the past. It does often lead me to think about what factors are missing from the evaluations we do and the data we collect. I ask myself “why aren’t they asking X question, or measuring Y factor” and I have to say to myself “one thing at a time!”
I’m going to check on your other comment now before I continue to ramble XD
