My day usually start around six o’clock in the morning. I make my coffee, eat little snack, and then I go to work. In the morning, I go to my other job which is at the graduate general dentistry clinic at UM School of Dentistry. I work usually until noon but it varies depends on the day. I work in the clinic as a receptionist. So, my job include greeting and checking in patients, answering phones, scheduling appointments, and other office duties. This job is very beneficial for me to discover the bushiness aspect of dentistry that we don’t really get taught much about in classrooms.
At noon, I head to the student research office where the undergraduate students like me works on their research with my mentor Dr. Inglehart. My day working in research includes literature review, designing different surveys for my research project, and entering data to SPSS program. I meet at least twice a week with my mentor to go over the surveys and to discuss my findings about research that have been done in the same area in the past. This week I sent out the surveys electronically to the hygiene students since they are not enrolled in summer. Next week, I will distribute my surveys to dental students during one of their classes that way I will guarantee getting more surveys back than sending them in an email. That pretty much conclude my day as a student researcher. I hope I will be getting enough data next week so I can start working on designing the tables for my poster.
